Daniela Meichelböck

Daniela grew up in Bavaria, Germany where her parents ran a country restaurant.

Being surrounded by animals and nature she says has influenced her work, leading to her feeding in that simplicity to her work.

Student Project

Daniela worked to create her own version of the Gommino using slits and slashing as her main focal point. She started her research by looking into the digital archive of the Germanische Nationalmuseum – the largest museum of cultural history in the German-speaking region. The shoes from the 15th century really caught her eye. They were simple yet beautiful, having the slashing details that became the main inspiration for her final collection.

Mentorship

MENTOR: PENNY MARTIN
Editor in Chief, The Gentlewoman

Background

“My mother always encouraged me and my two brothers to draw and craft. As a teenager, she taught me sewing on her machine. What initially led me to pursue fashion was the urge to create something for myself and I knew how to sew so it made sense to make clothes.”
